LTL Loads

The Ditat TMS supports LTL (Less Than Truckload) loads, where a driver completes more than one shipment on a single trip while keeping billing separate and accurate for each customer.

Ditat is not an LTL software. We will show the best way to do LTL loads in the system.

Creating an LTL Load

For this LTL example we will use the 2 shipments below. One load will be assigned to a driver the other load will be marked as completed without a driver being assigned so the miles are not duplicated.

Shipment 1 is load SH-000000001309

Shipment 2 is load SH-000000001311

  1. Open the first shipment and click View Trip on the toolbar to open the Assignment Wizard.

  1. Complete the assignment – Assign the truck, driver, trailer, and unloaded origin as you would for a standard load.

  1. Review the stops – In the Stops section, the unloaded origin will appear with a tan background, while the shipment stops have no background color.

  1. Add stops for the second shipment – Click Add Stop to add the pickup and delivery stops from the second shipment. New stops are added to the end of the trip by default but can be reordered using the arrows next to the delete (red ) and edit (pencil) buttons.

Note: Stops added for the second shipment will appear with a white background. White stops are not included in any customer billing — they are visible to the driver and dispatcher only. Make sure to check the appropriate boxes to designate each stop as a pickup, delivery, or both, and enter the required dates and times.

  1. Calculate driver pay – The driver is paid based on the shipment assigned to the trip, just as with a standard load. Check calls are used to progress and complete the trip as normal.

  1. Complete the second shipment – The second shipment will need to be marked as complete separately to make it ready to invoice. Click the Complete button on the second shipment — it does not need to be assigned to a trip to be invoiced.

Hyperlink

Use Ditat's hyperlinking feature to connect related shipments for easy reference. Copy and paste the shipment number into the trip notes — Ditat will automatically create a clickable hyperlink to that shipment.
